Fashion triumph at the Gainford Group Ladies Day: Eilish Waters clinches gold in the 2024 style awards
The buzz around Newcastle Racecourse reached a crescendo today as the annual Gainford Group Ladies Day unfolded, with Eilish Waters from Hexham being crowned this year’s Style Awards winner. The event, renowned for its blend of fashion, sport, and entertainment, showcased an array of dazzling outfits and celebrated the spirit of style and fashion excellence among attendees.

The title of Best Dressed went to Eilish Waters from Hexham, who stole the show with an elegant and exquisite red outfit covered with roses. She shared her excitement and inspiration behind the winning outfit, stating, “I knew I wanted a big headpiece, and I really like roses. I follow fashion quite a bit and saw that red is really big on the catwalk this year. I never really wear red and thought this was the perfect opportunity and I also recently lost my mum, and her favourite colour was red, so I also wanted to do this for her. When I first found the dress, I wasn’t sure about it, but then when I tried on the dress and headpiece together, I absolutely loved it. I feel amazing winning first place, I’m thrilled and can’t wait to see what I’ve won. My son told me this morning before I left that I couldn’t go out looking like this, so I can go home now and tell him that I’ve won first place at the Style Awards.”
The winning outfit showcased a gorgeous headpiece made by Marianne Millinery based in Devon and an elegant dress from Coast. Her eye-catching headpiece captured the attention of the TTM scouts, and her entire outfit was beautifully inspired by the theme of roses. From the headwear right down to her shoes, roses adorned the outfit, allowing her to steal first place.
Savannah Harding from Cleadon came second at the 2024 Style Awards wearing a black and white dress from Club London and Chanel-inspired nails. Savannah expressed her delight, saying, “I was not expecting to win this today, I’ve just been sitting enjoying the atmosphere and hospitality. I was amazed when I got scouted by the judges, and I am so grateful for the award and prizes. I knew I wanted to have a Chanel vibe for my outfit, very black and white and classic. For those coming to Ladies’ day next year, my advice would be to look as glamorous as you possibly can, nothing is ever too much.”
David Weir from Jarrow took third place in the 2024 Style Awards, impressing the judges with his colourful and bold suit. David told us, “I got my suit from Claudio Lugli when I won a bit of money last year and thought I’ll get something that I wouldn’t normally buy. I found the brand from Tyson Fury, who wore a similar suit and thought he looked good and that’s what pushed me to get one. It’s nice, bright, colourful, a bit out there, and different from anything I’ve worn before. I did not expect to win this today, I was expecting my mate to win, so I’m really happy and can’t wait to celebrate with my mates now.”
Reflecting on the day’s fashion highlights, Lesley Middlemiss Lister, Managing Director at TTM, and head Judge for Style Awards, remarked, “It was absolutely fantastic, I loved that people had read the style guide and brought the gold, bold colours and the jockey prints, with one of our top 10 ladies wearing the jockey diamonds. It was especially great to see how much effort the men put into their outfits, too, this year. We’ve had a great day today and already can’t wait for next year’s Style Awards.”
