Let the good times roll: Roller Rink returns to Metrocentre this summer
Skates at the ready! Metrocentre’s much-loved open-air Roller Rink is gliding back into Exhibition Square this summer, promising plenty of feel-good fun for all ages.
Running from Tuesday, 12th August to Sunday, 7th September, the roller rink will open 11am–7pm Monday to Saturday and until 5pm on Sundays. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just along for the vibes, this pop-up roller rink delivers 45 minutes of skating for just £5.
Skates are available in a range of sizes, or you’re welcome to bring your own wheels if preferred. New for this year are Learn to Skate classes for beginners, plus Jam Skate sessions for confident skaters ready to bust a move. For those who prefer a slower pace, SEND-friendly sessions run daily at 10.45am, ensuring an exclusive experience for everyone.

Helen Atkinson, Marketing Manager at Metrocentre, said: “We’re so excited to welcome the Roller Rink back to Exhibition Square. It was a huge hit last summer and we can’t wait to see families, friends and skating fans return to create even more amazing memories. It’s a fantastic way to bring the community together, support an excellent cause and add a little sparkle to the summer holidays.”
Every spin around the rink helps fund the work of Power Through Sport CIC, a North East based not-for-profit dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing through non-traditional sports.
Johnny Tulip of Power Through Sport, added, We can’t wait to roll back into Metrocentre this summer. We’re passionate about breaking down the barriers to being active and pop-up experiences like this help us do exactly that. Last August, over 11,000 people joined us on the rink and the response was incredible. We’re hoping to build on that amazing energy again this year and can’t wait to welcome everyone back!”
Booking is recommended, but walk-ups will be welcome where space allows. Skating sessions are £5 per person, which includes skate hire, and all proceeds raised will go to Power Through Sport.
It’s the perfect way to soak up the summer vibes and support a brilliant cause.
